Young Archie is a nationwide youth portrait competition organised by the Art Gallery of New South Wales. It is inspired by Australia’s most prestigious portrait award, the Archibald Prize. The competition is open to young artists aged 5 to 18and is widely recognised as one of Australia’s most influential portrait competitions for children and teenagers.

Participants are required to create a portrait of someone who is meaningful to them, such as a family member, friend, teacher, or themselves. The competition encourages students to not only capture the physical appearance of their subject but also convey emotion, relationships, and storytelling through artistic expression.

Winning and finalist artworks are usually exhibited at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, one of Australia’s most respected art institutions. Having artwork displayed there is a rare and honourable opportunity for young artists.

The competition presents multiple awards across different age groups, including major and special awards. Winners typically receive official certificates and may also receive prize money, commemorative awards, or media interview opportunities.

During the judging process, strong emphasis is placed on creativity and originality. Judges consider whether students present personal interpretations through their artwork, demonstrate fresh and unique perspectives, and show individual artistic style. Therefore, selection is based not only on technical skills but also on personal expression and artistic imagination.

评审过程中，评委特别重视作品的创意与原创表达，例如学生是否通过画面呈现个人理解、表现角度是否新颖，以及是否展现出独特的艺术风格。因此，入选作品除了艺术技巧外，也非常强调个人表达与艺术想象力。

If student artworks are submitted together through our studio, they will not be returned by default. If you would like the artwork returned, you may collect the artwork from us and arrange your own postage with a self-addressed envelope.

After completing the registration, you will receive a confirmation form. Parents of students who do not require artwork return only need to send this completed registration form to us. We will take care of the remaining submission process.

填完之后你会收到一份这样的报名表，不需要邮寄回作品的同学家长只要把这个报名表发给我，剩下的工作我们来处理。
